Melting Pot host Michelle Bernstein rose to culinary prominence in the kitchens of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami. After a nationwide search, the hotel selected the young chef, a Miami native, to take the helm at Azul, the hotel's 120-seat fine dining restaurant. Detail-oriented and passionate about her cuisine, Bernstein created a menu for Azul that featured the Latin flavors of her childhood, blended with Asian, Caribbean, and French influences.
Bernstein spent the early part of her life pursuing a career in dance, performing with renowned Alvin Ailey Dance Company in New York. But before long, her love of cooking won out over dance. She graduated from Johnson and Wales University and cut her teeth Allison on Dominick and Le Bernardin in New York. Later, she trained with Jean Louis Palladin at the Watergate in Washington D.C., a two-star Michelin restaurant. Prior to Azul, she was executive chef and co-owner of The Strand, cited as one of Miami's top restaurants by Food & Wine magazine as well as by La Nacion, one of Argentina's top newspapers.
Prior to the Strand, Bernstein served as chef at several award-winning restaurants, including Red Fish Grill and Christy's, both in Coral Gables, Florida, and at Tantra on Miami Beach.
